Onyx is a semi-precious type of gemstone, and in interiors it is usually only seen in the most luxurious of environments. Considered rare and exotic (read expensive), onyx is identified by its contrasting layers of colour and translucency, which makes it perfect for partitions, walls, bar counters, lamps and other decorative applications. However, the fragile nature of the stone means that it is not recommended for high traffic-areas, nor for horizontal surfaces such as countertops. Maintenance is also a pain as the soft stone has to be carefully handled and cleaned as it is easily damaged.
With tiles inspired by this precious stone now available, you can enjoy the luminescent presence of onyx with bonus qualities of durability and easy maintenance! These tiles, unlike natural onyx, are stain-resistant, easy to clean and stand up to daily use, so feel free to use them on countertops and surfaces where onyx would conventionally never appear, including flooring. The examples below will show you just how onyx-inspired tiles can turn your abode into a beautiful and glamourous million-dollar space.
Onyx
Simply named Onyx, this tile collection is groundbreaking for its ability to replicate the rich contrasting transparent layers and shade variations of onyx for true-to-life three-dimensional pattern. The Onyx tiles also feature exceptional flatness and a uniform mirror finish which further enhances the realism of the tile. Each of the five colours of Ivory, Pink, Green, Blue, and Black, are available in various sizes ranging from 30cm by 60cm to the largest 120cm by 278cm slab – also known as a slim tile as it is a mere 6.5mm thick. The many pattern variations for each size gives the collection amazing versatility and possibilities for large scale application.
Starlight (Onyx Pearl)
The Starlight collection was inspired by eight of the rarest and finest natural marbles, one of them being Onyx Pearl, with its elegant pearl grey background and ivory-coloured veining patterns. Taking its cue from a Middle Eastern stone, Onyx Pearl demonstrates an attention to the finest mineral details with a shiny mirror-like finish. The large ultra-thin slabs of 3.5mm thickness come in three different sizes, up to an impressive 100cm by 300cm size which features a fibreglass mat applied to the back to reinforce its strength. The Starlight collection also boasts integrated anti-bacterial protection.
Trilogy (Onyx Light)
The Onyx Light selection of the Trilogy collection presents refined grey-hued patterned layers on an ivory background as its representation of precious onyx. The 100cm by 300cm size is a Zero.3 superior quality thin ceramic slab that is just 6mm thick, adding to its versatility for application on a large architectural scale. Choose from two surfaces, Soft and Lux, and a variety of sizes. The Trilogy tiles also come with anti-bacterial protection.
Reloaded (Onice Klimt)
The artistic Reloaded tile collection interprets various marble types, developing not just classic styles but also fresh innovative patterns that pair perfectly with each other. Onice Klimt is one of five tile families within Reloaded that features a classic onyx-inspired design with the material’s defining layers of translucency and distinctive veining patterns. The 120cm by 240cm slab of 6.5mm thickness is available in four sizes.
