Beat the HDB BTO delay blues. Get inspiration for your renovation with these amazing apartments
Tiles

Has the completion of your HDB BTO flat been delayed due to the pandemic? Now that you’ve got more time on your hands, use it to plan well for your renovation. Do keep in mind that some renovation materials such as tiles, as well as fixtures and furniture might need to be ordered (or indented, in industry jargon), and those orders might be delayed due to the slowdown in global manufacturing and delivery services. Whether you’ve just started plotting your renovation or already have that dream home pictured clearly in your mind, there’s no harm in more design inspiration! These apartments are too gorgeous not to share.

Five-room BTO HDB flat at Waterway Point
Designer: Studio Fortyfour

Looking like it came out of a magazine, this kitchen by Studio Fortyfour has all the style boxes ticked. Terrazzo might be an old-school flooring material, but the terrazzo-inspired Ergon Medley tile in Classic Green is bang on colour trend with its flecks of pink, white and black in a racing green body. The baby pink cabinetry is a charming and unexpected colour choice for kitchens. The design of the island countertop with the extended table top is perfect for small spaces as it can triple-function as breakfast counter, dining area, and even home office, with storage within the island. The open-plan style also makes the space look larger.

Cool and minty is what comes to mind in the master bathroom of this flat. Ragno Unitech is a collection of ceramic tiles available in 17 colours and the designer has chosen Menta, a soothing pastel green hue, in a matte finish for this space. Coloured grouting helps add finesse to the whole look, and is a detail that elevates the design of the space. On the floor, timber-inspired Polis Listone tiles in Cream add to the inviting mood of this space.

A different atmosphere pervades the guest bathroom. The Ragno Unitech tiles in Topazio with a matte finish inject a more upbeat and fun vibe with their indigo hue, paired with cabinetry in a luscious berry colour. The white of the grouting, countertop, and sanitaryware balances out the coloured surfaces.

 HDB flat at Circuit Road
Designer: Artistroom

You can hardly believe this is a HDB flat, with its centrepiece kitchen and dining area. The designers at Artistroom replaced the kitchen walls with a long bespoke dining table as a subtle zoning gesture with the open kitchen becoming a culinary theatre. As such, the Ragno Brick Glossy tiles in Blue used for the backsplash have been chosen to impress. With their uneven glossy texture, the subway tiles laid in a bricklaying pattern bring a traditional charm to the modern space. The flooring of stone-inspired Ergon Stone Project tiles in Grey Falda flows throughout the space and acts as the bridging element that ties the colour scheme neatly together.

Condominium at Mirage Tower
Designer: Eightytwo

The kitchen is undoubtedly the showstopper in this apartment designed by EightyTwo, with the island countertop dominating the open-concept living and dining space. A light grey colour scheme helps amplify the sunlight streaming into the space. This is helped by the marble-inspired Atlas Concorde Marvel Pro tiles in Grey Fleury Matt that flow underfoot, which also bring a side of luxury into the almost minimalist space. Anchoring the zone is the island, with its earthy-coloured ribbed cladding.

We love how light and airy the master bathroom looks, despite its compact dimensions. This visual trickery is accomplished by the use of glass partitions as well as light-coloured textured materials such as the Ergon TR3ND tiles in Concrete Grey on the left wall and Concrete White tiles on the floor. Using tiles on the floor is a safer option for bathrooms, as they come with different levels of resistance or ‘texture’ for anti-slip properties.

The same marble-inspired Atlas Concorde Marvel Pro tile in Grey Fleury Matt used in the living and kitchen area makes an appearance in the bedroom too for its rich marble veining and depth of colour. A similar colour palette of light greys with a touch of warm timber tones create a restful space for relaxing.
