In the extremely competitive food and beverage industry in Singapore, having attractive interiors fit for the ‘gram is as important as the food on the menu. The brand identity of a food establishment, be it a fast food joint, a casual café or a high-end restaurant can also be reinforced by its interiors, in its choice of colour or material palette. Below, we highlight three popular dining establishments which have all used tiles from RICE to create an impactful brand identity as well as beautiful interiors. Tiles give these high traffic spaces the added bonus of durability and easy maintenance which is key for cleanliness and hygiene.
Nobu at Four Seasons Hotel Singapore
The interiors of celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s first restaurant in Singapore at the Four Seasons Hotel is as charming and delightful as its creative Japanese-Peruvian menu. Glossy aquamarine Look tiles in Avio from RICE adorn the wall behind the sushi counter and private teppanyaki room, their uneven organic textures dancing in the light. The colour, reminiscent of the sea, is a dream pairing with the abundance of light timber tones and reinforces the theme of nature throughout the calming spaces. Look tiles come in a single size of 6cm by 24cm, and in seven colours.
Eggslut

The brand identity of Eggslut – the bright yolk-yellow of its logo and its playful personality is evident in its two outlets here at Scotts Square and Suntec City. The casual dining concept from Los Angeles gained fame for its egg-centric burger menu and tongue-in-cheek name. Diamond-shaped Mutina Tex tiles in Yellow, Grey and Black in a cheerful and free confetti-like design adorn prominent surfaces in both locations, on the underside of the front-facing service counter at Scotts Square, and on all four sides of the large columns at the front of the Suntec branch. Light-coloured concrete-inspired Tr3nd tiles in Grey on the floor keep the interiors bright and airy.
Shake Shack

With each new Shake Shack outlet in Singapore, we can expect a familiar menu of luscious burgers, hotdogs and fries. But the burger chain which originated from New York makes the effort to infuse each location with a fresh vibe and energy, courtesy of wall murals by local artists and illustrators. For their Great World City outlet, local urban visual artist Toby Tan, better known as Tobyato, created a colourful mural in his fluid stencil-like style to recall the carefree spirit and carnival mood of the former Great World amusement park. At Gardens by the Bay, Soph O executed huge florals in an explosion of colours with a piece entitled Passion Flora. What’s identical in both outlets though, is the flooring of Vaucluse stone-inspired tiles from RICE. The flooring’s natural hue is the perfect neutral canvas to offset the high-energy hues of the interiors.
