From the Mutina Chymia tile collection, the stamped black-and-white floral motif of the wall tiles gives the bathroom a feminine identity with contemporary colours.

Unless you live alone, chances are the only true moments of privacy you enjoy in your home take place in the bathroom. This quiet sanctuary is the perfect place to clear your mind and daydream, meditate, or even brainstorm! Let your bathroom be a place you truly enjoy, and to help you do that are these tiles from Mutina, the Italian tile company renowned for their fresh and original tile design concepts.

The Mutina Chymia collection by Laboratorio Avallone consists of 30cm by 30cm tiles that come in 22 designs, which include surface as well as textural patterns using only two colours, black and white. This classic colour pairing is sophisticated, yet brings a modern sensibility to the bathroom with the artistic designs of Chymia. The tiles are versatile too, pairing well with natural materials such as marble and timber.

The tiles of the Mutina Diarama collection by Hella Jongerius create visual ripples of colour and texture across bathroom walls, great for creating depth in a small space. Each 9.4cm by 18.7cm tile features alternating bands of matte and glossy surfaces, the result of the glaze applied on the tile. Intriguing variations are made by layering the same glaze over different coloured matte clay bases or different glazes over black or grey bases.

Mutina Din by Konstantin Grcic seems like a simple collection of square and rectangular tiles that all fit into the same grid, but it is this simplicity that gives it so much room for play –  especially when the tiles come in eight unique colours, and matte and glossy finishes. Adding to the fun are the six special pieces for angles and profiles that allow the tiles to flow across edges.

The most exuberantly expressive Mutina tile collection, Mattonelle Margherita by Nathalie Du Pasquier features 33 patterns, of which 27 are in a size of 20.5cm by 20.5cm and six are 10.1cm by 20.5cm. Together with plain tiles, there are endless possibilities for experimentation to produce a bathroom that is high on individuality.

Mutina Punto by Erwan and Rowan Bouroullec uses a simple concept of large raised and sunken dots on 4cm by 31.5cm kitkat-shaped tiles to add decorative texture to walls. This old-school design looks especially outstanding on large surfaces, and is available in a contemporary palette of Victorian green, pub brown, white, grey and salmon pink, in matte and glossy finishes.

The Mutina Rombini collection by the Bouroullec brothers introduces three-dimensional surfaces to your bathroom walls for sleek height-enhancing effects. The origami-like accordion folds of Rombini come in three sizes of extra-small, small and large, in five colours, and matte and glossy finishes.
