These new stone-inspired tiles are set to rock the style of your home!
Tiles
Made for walls, these decorative tiles from the Panaria Pierre Des Reves collection demonstrate how there are various ways to enjoy the elegance of stone in the home.

Stone is more commonly applied outdoors but with stone-inspired tiles being widely available with exciting developments in design and pattern, stone looks now are chic choices for the flooring and walls of residential spaces such as bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms and even bedrooms! Tiles are a great option if you want your flooring to have a consistent pattern. Being an organic material, natural stone would have higher variegation in its colour or pattern. As the same tile might be available in different thicknesses and slip resistance, one can extend the same flooring from indoors to outdoors by choosing the version which is thicker and has a higher slip resistance for the outdoor space. Tiles are also generally more budget friendly than natural stone.

Tiles are easier to use and maintain as compared to the natural material as the latter’s unevenness makes it tougher to apply sealant and cleaners evenly. Current tile trends point to large format sizes not just for commercial but also residential use, and stone-inspired tiles are no different, with slabs in sizes of up to 2600mm by 1000mm. Larger tiles mean fewer grout lines and more spacious-looking interiors, we advise clients to use the right size tiles for the desired feel. For example, a large format tile in a small space might have the unintended effect of overwhelming the space. In a space such as a small entranceway, a smaller size tile might work better.

We also advise clients to take special care in the installation of large format tiles. Choose the proper mortar to ensure the safety of your surfaces. Due to the weight of the large format tiles, using mortars that are specially formulated for these tiles is crucial. Learn more on the proper installation of large format tiles on the Methods & Solutions page of RICE’s website.
